FROM THE

It was four years ago that we launched the first issue of Canadian Building Trades Magazine. What a journey it has
been. The magazine is now distributed from coast to coast through direct mail and is also circulated at countless
Building Trades Union conferences, golf tournaments and events.
The magazine has truly earned a place in the hands and hearts of CBTU Members with its industry articles, human
interest features and a good mix of information that is considered valuable and interesting by our members. It has
been an honour to watch the page count of the magazine increase and enthusiasm for every new issue bubble over.
Now, in fall 2019, we are pleased to present this very special Canada Election 2019 edition. Because of the quality
and consistency of our product over the past several years and a readership that has grown to over 500,000, we have
been able to secure interviews with many political leaders for the pages of this issue.
I am honoured to have had the opportunity to interview the Prime Minister, the Right Honuorable Justin Trudeau, at
the historic Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. I am also honoured to have interviewed the Premier of Ontario Doug
Ford, Premier of New Brunswick Blaine Higgs, Federal Labour Minister Patty Hajdu and Ontario Labour Minister Monte
McNaughton.
Also included in this issue are contributions from Premier John Horgan of British Columbia, Premier Stephen McNeil
of Nova Scotia, Premier Dwight Ball of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Leader of the official Opposition, the Right
Honorable Andrew Scheer, NDP MP Daniel Blaikie and a special friend to Canada’s Building Trades Unions, retiring
MP Rodger Cuzner. All have made outstanding contributions to our magazine.
No matter what your personal political views are, please share our thanks to every politician who seeks a life in public
service. They all deserve our respect and gratitude. It is a tough job. Make certain you support their commitment by
getting out there on October 21st to cast your ballot and do your part to elect a government that represents your
views. Exercising your democratic right to vote in a free and fair election is something no one should take for granted.
Many parts of the world don’t enjoy the same privilege. Please spread the message to get out and vote no matter
what your political affiliation. Add your voice to all our efforts towards continuing to make Canada a place that is
sought out to live and prosper in.
Thanks to so many of the Provincial Councils who have participated by contributing their views and insights into regional
political concerns in this issue. The magazine is fantastic because of them. Participation makes everyone stronger.
It is my honour and privilege to serve as the Publisher of Canadian Building Trades Magazine. We are only getting
started and we look forward to continuing to reach CBTU Members wherever they may be. Without you none of this
would be possible.
